What are the system requirements for XLeratorDB?
XLeratorDB runs on any machine running SQL Server 2005 or later (compatibility level 90 or higher) in either 32 or 64 bit configurations.
Does XLeratorDB work with SQL Server 2012? 2014?
Yes, XLeratorDB has been fully tested against SQL Server 2012 and 2014. The XLeratorDB products named as ‘2008’ are intended for use on SQL Server 2008, 2012, and 2014.
Who can install XLeratorDB?
Only the database administrator can install XLeratorDB on SQL Server and select the specific database(s) that the functions will run in. The installation program (.msi file) is downloaded to and physically resides on the licensed server. However, DBA admin privileges are required to actually run the SQL Server installation (in either automated or manual mode) and choose the database(s) for installation.
How is XLeratorDB licensed?
XLeratorDB is licensed per server with no restriction on the number of databases or the number of users on the licensed server. The name(s) of the licensed server(s) is (are) provided at the time of download.
Can I transfer licenses between servers?
If you purchase the extended licensing option (ELO), you may transfer licenses between servers during the extended licensing period, which is either 3 years or 5 years. Without ELO, you may only use the licensed software on the named server(s) provided prior to download.
What if I enter the server name incorrectly?
If you have ELO, you can simply log in to your account and transfer the license to the correct server name. Without ELO you may still change the server name before downloading the software for the first time. Otherwise, contact us via e-mail at email@example.com or give us a call at 1 914 231 7137.
What is the Extended Licensing Option (ELO)?
ELO allows you to transfer licenses between and among servers in your environment, provided that the number of servers on which the licensed software is installed is less than or equal to the number of licenses purchased.
How much does ELO cost?
ELO is available in a 3-year and a 5-year option. ELO is 20% of the initial license fee per year.
Will XLeratorDB change the data in my database?
No. XLeratorDB installs with PERMISSION_SET=SAFE. SAFE mode, which is read-only, does not permit the creation of new data. Additionally, code executed by an assembly with SAFE permissions cannot access external system resources such as files, the network, the internet, environment variables, or the registry.
Where do I get the database Server Name?
Open SQL Server Management Studio on the licensed server, type:
And then hit F5.
Where can I find my License Key?
Login to this web site with your user ID and go to the My Orders page. Please note that XLeratorDB software downloaded on or after October 1, 2011 no longer requires a license key for installation.
How do I install XLeratorDB if my database server is behind a firewall?
If the target database server cannot access the internet directly, the XLeratorDB installation file (.msi file) may be downloaded to an intermediate computer (e.g. a laptop) and the file later transferred to the target database server. Importantly, however, regardless of whether any intermediate computer is involved, the name of the target database server must be identified at the time of download.
How do XLeratorDB functions compare to EXCEL?
XLeratorDB functions, in most cases, have been designed and extensively tested to replicate the results you would get using Excel. Some adaptations have been made to accommodate the requirements of the database environment. XLeratorDB does not include every function in Excel (because some are native in SQL Server), but it does include a wide range of functions that are not available in Excel; generally these are useful for the kind of large dataset analytics Excel cannot handle.
Are these EXCEL functions in some kind of a wrapper?
No. We have written these functions from scratch and then run them millions of times against comparable functions in Excel to make sure that they worked. In some cases, they perform calculations that Excel does not. For example, in the ODDLPRICE and ODDLYIELD functions, XLeratorDB does not require that the settlement date be greater than the last interest date.
